A Golden Section Search Assisted Incremental Conductance MPPT Control for PV Fed Water Pump
Abstract
Abstract- This paper presents a new hybrid maximum power point tracking (MPPT) method to improve speed response and efficiency. This method is designed to control a simple standalone photovoltaic (PV) water pumping system-based single-stage brushless DC (BLDC) motor. A couple-stage hybrid MPPT method that incorporates the golden section search (GSS) technique-based MPPT algorithm and incremental conductance (INC) is implemented to enhance the global efficiency of the system. The GSS optimization method handles the initial stages to find the global peak and helps to speed up the convergence rate. In contrast, the INC MPPT method achieves sufficient accuracy with lower oscillation towards the MPPT at the final stages. The designed system is modeled, examined, and compared using the traditional methods in MATLAB/Simulink to evaluate the MPPT efficiency of the model. The obtained results confirm that the MPPT controls can successfully drive a 1150-watt BLDC motor with high tracking efficiency and reliability.
