Experimental Test Bench of Photovoltaic Panel Under Partial Shading Effect Using the SLG-Backstepping technique
Abstract
Under the partial shading effect, The Power-Voltage curve, of a photovoltaic panel, can include several maximum power points (local maximums and one global maximum). In this case, the MPPT techniques are unable to distinguish the global maximum. Thus, they result in a considerable drop of power. The SLG-Backstepping technique belongs to the Global Maximum Power Points Tracking techniques (GMPPT) those are able to distinguish and track the maximum global power point. Indeed, the SLG-Backstepping offers a good tracking performance (accuracy and rapidity). This paper presents a real-time experimental assessment of the SLG-Backstepping, these tests are carried out in order to prove the ability of the proposed SLG-backstepping control strategy to work in real time. This controller is compared to the P&O-Backstepping technique that belongs to the MPPT technique. The P&O Backstepping and SLG-Backstepping techniques are implemented on the Arduino Mega 2560 board through MATLAB/Simulink environment. According to the simulation results, the SLG-Backstepping technique is able to detect the partial shading and to track the global maximum when the partial shading takes place. In addition, this technique shows tracking performances better than those of the P&O-technique when they are compared under uniform meteorological conditions. MATLAB/Simulink environment.
