Performances of Savonius Rotor with Addition Guide Vane

Abstract


This paper aims to improve the performance of Savonius rotor with the addition of guide vane. Guide vane with angle of 45° against tangent is placed around the rotor with the aim of reducing the negative torque to the returning blade. Guide vane is used with varying amounts of 4, 8 and 16. The analysis was conducted by simulation using Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) and experiment. The performances of Savonius rotor with guide vane was up to 33% higher than without guide vane.
